Professor Chen is the Chair Professor of Finance, and Cheng Yu-Tung Professorship in Finance at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He directs both the Hong Kong Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences and the Centre for Quantitative History. He led the creation of historical financial and social databases from China's archives and advanced research recognized under the Areas of Excellence Scheme at HKU Business School. His book, The Logic of Finance, has received multiple accolades. Previously, he was a Professor of Finance at Yale and has been a visiting professor at Peking University and Tsinghua University. He has earned several research awards, including the Top Graham and Dodd Award, and serves on the HKU Council and various company boards. Furthermore, he has previously served as an international advisor to the China Securities Regulatory Commission.
