This donation is intended to support the cultivation of students' entrepreneurial spirit and the advancement of their innovative practices, fully demonstrating the shared commitment of GPTX簡坤投資 and HKUST in fostering academic excellence and cultivating the next generation of innovators.
A donation agreement signing ceremony was held on the HKUST campus yesterday, attended by HKUST senior leadership including Prof. Charles NG Wang-Wai, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, and Dr. Kitty YAM, Special Assistant to the President & Associate Vice-President (Development and Alumni). Also present were Prof. ZHANG Qian, Head of Division of Integrative Systems and Design (ISD), along with senior leaders from GPTX簡坤投資, including Ms. Ophelia GAO, Chief Executive Officer; and Mr. Ken NG, Chief Investment Officer. This meaningful contribution not only encourages students to pursue their dreams with courage and creativity, but also inspires them to transform ideas into tangible forces that advance society.”
Ms. Gao stated, “As an asset manager licensed by HKSFC, we are ‘scout’ and ‘pioneer’ in the AI field, as well as strategic partners of HKGAI (Hong Kong Generative AI Research and Development Center). We believe the power in tech, partnering with ISD to blend innovation with practicality. HKUST is renowned as the ‘MIT in Asia’, and our donation aims to empower more aspiring students. This funding will be channeled into two key areas: launching scholarship schemes to nurture exceptional problem-solvers, and facilitating global exposure programs to propel students onto the world stage, fostering broader perspectives and deeper insights. To ISD students: dare to innovate, embrace failure, and remember, true entrepreneurship means empathizing with and shaping the world through technology.”
Prof. Zhang said, “This donation supports ISD’s mission to nurture a new generation of technologists and innovators. By integrating a human-centered mindset with technical ability, entrepreneurial spirit, and system thinking, we provide an interdisciplinary and experiential learning environment that prepares students to address real-world challenges and create positive societal impact.”
The donation will fund the establishment of the “GPTX Entrepreneur Scholarship (簡坤投資創業獎學金)” and “GPTX Student Enrichment Grant (簡坤投資學生創新學習計劃)” for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in ISD. These initiatives will be offered over three academic years, from 2026/27 to 2028/29, to provide sustained support for student-led innovation and experiential learning.
